Trying to Avoid the Wind, Paddling Down From Monte Rio

Wednesday April 13, 2016 Monte Rio CA.

Monte Rio down and back

Checking the weather today, it was going to be windy, so I decided to go on down to Monte Rio which usually has less wind than Jenner.

I put in around noon and headed on down the river.rio

I wasn’t going far today, just down to the Villa Grande Hole, just down the river about as far as you can see.restspot

I spooked this great blue heron off it’s perch as I paddled on by.heron

A couple turtles

I saw a couple turtles on a log across the river. Interesting that they were that high up on the log, which is unusual for them to be up that high.turtles

Villa Grande Hole

The Villa Grande hole is just up ahead which is my destination today where I sat for a spell.villa

There is an active osprey nest at the hole. It’s too soon for little ones to be seen yet.nest

I sat around the spot just observing and taking it easy. When I looked up once,  I saw this cormorant up in a dead tree. The rear end was pointing in my direction, so I backed off a bit. When they get nervous, they poop a bunch, just before taking off and it’s not a good idea to be under them when they do.cormorant

Headed back up the river

Eventually I headed back up the river along it’s edge to stay out of the current, going along here.upriver

There were several crows along the shoreline, sorta protecting the area from other birds, so maybe they have a nest close by?crow

Two kayakers came down the river, said hi and continued on down while I continued on up the river, just below Monte Rio.boaters

I was checking out this pair of mallard ducks when I heard someone shout, hey Bob.ducks

Patti shows up

I turned around and could see Patti paddling on up the river. She had been down the river below me somewhere and was just returning to the boat ramp.patti

We shot the bull a bit, then we hit the boat ramp and went on home for the day.patti2

It was a nice day when I got home, but I mostly  just moped around the yard as I’m still  not sleeping well, so I just couldn’t get into doing much, except enjoying the day.

I did jack up my car and look at what I needed to do to replace my O2 sensor. I decided I needed some more tools for the job, so let the jack down and continued to do not much. :O)

That was my day.

Hi Ken, It seems I’m never in sync with my doctors, so I suffer a bit. Heeling deep skin burns is rougher than I would of suspected. But,,,,,,,,,,, that’s life. Just goes to show ya, you just have to do whatever it is and keep on trucking. On a good note, I think I might have finally got all the corn out of my system, but unfortunately, with all the burn healing, and itching like hell, I can’t tell for sure as they both have the same effects, itch, itch, scratch, scratch. Well, the secret is to limit the scratch, scratch. I do the best I can. :O)
Thanks for the comment and see you on the river,
    Bob

As always your posts, comments and photos were right on. I’m hoping before too long your doctors and body will get in sync, so you can be pain free.
I’ve been taking it easy supporting my clients and my sister Lonna. Long ago I broke my left in a hard ball game, took a line drive and I’m left-handed, so my glove was on my right hand. Seems like old injuries can come back to challenge us. Happy paddling and healing, Ken
