Friday April 17, 2015 Jenner CA.
I could see it was a bit foggy as I drove into Jenner today and put my boat in the water. At least the wind was down.
Looks like the river mouth closed
The river water level was a bit high today, indicating the river’s mouth is closed, but I didn’t’ go down that way to see how closed it was?
I headed on over to Penny island and headed up the river and this is what it looked like as I paddled along.
Nesting mallard pair
I went by this pair of mallard ducks. The female is feeding while the male is keeping watch, which indicates the female is sitting on a nest close by.
The geese have little ones
I paddled past Paddy’s rock when I saw a couple of geese head out into the water and soon saw that they had some little guys with them, the first that I’ve seen this year.
The fog lifted a little and it was enough to make it a fine day as I sat and watched at Muskrat nest beach.
An osprey lands overhead
I headed back down the river from there and as I was passing eagle’s landing, this osprey landed in the fir tree just over my head.
And I passed by this pair of merganser ducks taking it easy on this redwood log.
An osprey dives repeatedly
Just as I passed by those two ducks, I spotted an osprey doing a low dive into the water and then flying a circle and repeating this swallow dive. I think I watched it do it over ten times.
Here’s the osprey as it is just coming out of the water after a dive. I didn’t see it catch anything while I watched it, on any of it’s dives.
Here is the osprey just after it hit and is about to come out of the water.
Here’s the osprey just as it comes out of the water, but it didn’t appear to catch anything.
Calling it a day
I paddled over to the end of Penny Island where I sat in this spot for awhile as I was thinking of going in for the day.
This male mallard was feeding in the grasses just off to my right.
I decided to cut it short for the day and headed on over to the boat ramp and took my boat out for the day.
On the way home, I stopped and got some gas and did some shopping.
The rest of the day was spent puttering around in my yard, mostly just enjoying the rest of the day, until it got cool and I went on in.
That was my day for another nice one.
