New Peeps, Some Shopping and More Peeps Peeping

Peep Peep

When I went out to check on the chickens this morning I heard some new peeps peeping.

This hen came out with her two peeps.peeps

Too little

There were peeps in two of the nest boxes but too new to come out  yet.

I needed to go to the shopping areas and do some shopping so I drove over there and went to the hardware store first stopping in their yard and picking up a roll of 24 inch chicken wire. Then I went into the store to the plant section and asked about kiwi plants. She didn’t know but found out they didn’t have them and her boss decided they should get some as they should be selling them.

The list says rhubarb

I wrote rhubarb on my list so after looking at that went back and got 4 plants for planting.

I picked up some other hardware and then drove on over to Costco.

Bad onions, Bad Costco

One of the things I buy is a big bag of onions as there’s no corn stuff in them. Last time there were a bunch of rotten ones in the bag and I almost got more of them this time. I picked up a couple bags and looked at them and the onions looked a bit not so good. I dug a  bit for some bags down deeper and found they were good to go. So what’s happening is when the guy changes out the big bin of them to a new one he throws the old onions from deep in the last bin to the top of the new bin so the old onions that didn’t get enough air at the bottom of the old bin are now at the top.

Not a good practice on their part. I learned just in time and I was careful selecting a big bag of potatoes for the same reason.

That was all the shopping I could handle for one day so I headed on home.

More new peeps

I checked the peeps and found these five more out and about with mom.peep

Early to bed

There were some more new ones too, but they all went in to bed early so I wasn’t able to get any photos of them yet.

Those little guys are very small especially their  bodies under the feathers so I have to watch them as they can get through the chicken wire and may also get caught in something so it’s good to check on them often to see if any are in some kind of distress. They peep a lot when in trouble. Peep Peep.

Peep peep

I’ve got another hen due in a few days so there should be even more of the little guys. Peep, peep.

I was pretty worn out from shopping so not much else got done today, except for a nap and some chair hopping.

That was my day, lots of little peeps coming. Great.

Sometimes buying bulk produce can be tricky They only stay fresh for so long. Always a good practice to check them thoroughly. You are getting quite family of chickens there, going to keep you well fed.

Peep peep! Yay, lots of little babies. Such a soft little sound too.
The rule of FIFO (first in first out) shouldn’t apply to food. After working in a warehouse I know the practice well BUT when it is obvious that part of a bag is going soft/bad, toss it. I’m surprised that they don’t split the bags, throw out the bad ones and put them on a ‘fast sale’ rack like a grcery store does.
Glad you found good ones and congratulations Grandpa on the new peeps!
