Garden Prep, Sprinkler Construction, Squash Plants and Making That Rooster Good

Spring day

Another nice sunny spring day. I got it going and went out to check up on the chickens. I checked in with the momma chicken warming eggs. She seems to be doing fine. About another 8 days until hatching starts if all goes well.hen

Prepping the garden

I wanted to get this new garden plot graded so I can plant some stuff in it. I put the water to it to help soften up the dirt clods.water

Then I did my best to rake out rows were I’ll be doing some planting soon.gardem

Need egg buckets

I don’t seem to have enough small buckets for gathering eggs so I took the handle from the paint can I cut in half the other day and put it on this small flower pot which should do the trick. All I had to do was drill a couple holes for the handle.bucket

I let the chickens out to graze in the weeds. They sure love that.chickens

Need more sprinklers

I need more sprinklers so I constructed this one out of rebar.sprikler

Here’s a close up of the construction.sprink

More plants then I know what to do with

I was sitting around enjoying the day when my brother Tom came by in his golf cart and wanted to know if I wanted some squash plants. He’d let them get too dried out and didn’t want them any more as he had better ones to plant. He gave me three flats of them which I put the water on. I will only use a few of them once I get them rejuvenated. There’s three types of squash there.squash

Making the rooster good

When I cooked the rooster the other day it came out not very tender so today I put it in a big pot with broth and made up some dumpling dough which is cooking now. Should be good.

Had a nice day.
