DeCarley and I Shoot The Bull and Coffee Plants Get Planted

Monday March 13, 2023 Guerneville CA.

Shipping Container research

I heard a guy down the road from me just got a shipping container. I thought it would be a good idea to go down and visit and talk with him about it. I drove on down to Rick DeCarley’s place at the old Parmeter place, our third grade teacher’s place, a long time ago.

Shooting the bull

I found him out in the yard and we shoot the bull for a good bit talking about shipping containers and what to do with them as well as a lot of other stuff.

Eventually he went about his business and I drove on home.

It was a drizzly day with rain showers so I was limited on what I could do outside today.

Wet package

On the way home from DeCarley’s I found a wet package at my gate so I picked it up.

I found these two bags in the wet box.bags

Coffee plants

I knew what they were. Two coffee plants I had ordered up, so I needed to get them planted.coffee

They like shade and don’t like to freeze, sorta like orange trees as far as the freezing goes. It’s chancy trying to rise these kinds of things around here as it can sometimes freeze, but if things don’t get frosted, the rewards are worth it.

Because of the freezing problem, I plant these kinds of things by the creek as it doesn’t get as cold by the running water in the creek.

I picked this spot and had to move that small avocado tree over a bit and pull up all the other stuff to make room for the coffee plants.plot

I replanted the avocado tree to the left and dug up the soil which was a bit on the wet side from the rains. It was drizzling lightly and I  had to stop for a bit when a showers would hit.avocado

Mulched

I added a bunch of mulch to the dirt and  mixed it in as best I could.mulch

All prepped and ready for the plants.mulched

Protectors

I needed some wire to protect the new plants from chickens and critters so I cut two pieces of wire to do the job.wire

Planted and protected

I installed the wire and put some garden clothe on top to help protect from the cold and all done. Now, it’s up to the plants and the weather.planted

Inverter for the van

I’d purchased a new inverter for the old van, mostly as I’d like to use my small Instant Pot while traveling, but now I have to figure out where to mount it. I’m having trouble with that as there isn’t much room in a little van. I tried putting it in several places to see if it would fit. No place was really good, so I’ll think on that for awhile and see what else I can come up with. I do have possibilities, but, so far I haven’t figured out a real good place yet.inverter

Chicken feed

With the time change today, I have extra time late in the day so I mixed up some chicken feed for the chickens, in the blue barrel. I feed crimped oats and barley and Milo and black sunflower seeds to my chickens plus all the goodies they can find outside while grazing.feed

Nice day.

Catching up. I like that you brothers get out and play together. Nice waterfall. And that machine in the last post looks like it could go anywhere. What all does it do? Coffee plants will be interesting to watch.

Coffee! Now that is exciting. Once grew some artichokes, which would be a ho-hum event in CA, but exciting in central TX. Actually had some artichokes….nice. Didn’t do it the next year though. But coffee should just keep on going if it doesn’t get nipped in the bud.
